I work in a diverse range of media to express a broad set of concepts, surrounding the states of wonderment achieved when people contemplate things larger than themselves. I focus in on the physics of light, the notion of the cosmos, and geometry to explore how interests in these three subjects cross-inform each other. My working method begins with a collection of a wide set of ideas and stories. Spending time sorting through this collection, I figure out and create the underlying pattern of what resonates for me within the mind-state of wonder. The result is a seemingly random set of objects and forms, where the viewer is drawn to tease out their own unifying pattern. The presence of such a pattern may be elusive, but it is the search that draws the viewer to the intended mind-state. Gareth Spor, 2008 |
